CELCAT Timetabler launched at St Anthony's College - Wattala

 

St Anthony’s (National) College at Wattala consist of Primary and Secondary Schools with a large student population of over 4000 pupils. The College also cater for Sinhala, Tamil and English medium for their pupils with a complex set of optional (baskets) subjects. Due to the complex nature of subject offering, timetabling classes and achieving a teaching balance from their staff was a demanding task for the principle Rev Father Mall Fernando. Given this background and CELCAT as a timetable system is starting prove its fit for purpose in Sri Lankan schools; Rev Father took a bold decision to implement the system at St Anthony’s College.

CELCAT Timetabler launched at St Joseph's College - Wattala

 

St Joseph’s College at Wattala branch is one of the early private schools to acquire CELCAT Timetabler system in Sri Lanka. The rector of the college, Rev Father Ranjith Anadradi is a keen technologist is eager to develop the College administrative activities with the introduction of Timetable package, Human resource (Staff Management) and Student management.

Mr. Ian Grimes Visited to Sri Lanka

 

Around the middle of 2011, the preparation of CELCAT Timetabler system entering to Sri Lankan education market was nearly completed. The product was tested against government, semi-government, private schools as well as the University sector. Around November 2011, the path was cleared for the CELCAT’s Regional Accounts Manager for Central and South Asia to make a visit to Sri Lanka to look at the growing customer base and to investigate new opportunities. Mr Ian Grimes arrived in Sri Lanka for a week long break in Sri Lanka on Thursday 10th of November.

First two days of Mr Grimes visit was occupied with discussing local issues with Academic Management Systems (AMS) staff and knowledge transfer of some of the new features of CELCAT Version 7.2. Over the weekend Mr Grimes and the Director of AMS spend some leisure time at Pinnawala elephant orphanage, Victoria dam/reservoir and Temple of Tooth Relic, Sri Dalada Veediya, Kandy, Central Province.

Next it’s time to visit CELCAT clients in Sri Lanka and exchanging views/ideas related to client requirements and their satisfactions. During Monday 14th and Tuesday 15th, Mr Grimes along with AMS staff visited Good Shepherd School at Hendala, Ratnavali School at Gampaha, St Joseph’s College (Wattala Branch) and St Anthony’s College, Wattala. Mr Grimes was welcome by Principals, vice Principals and the other school staff to appreciate their hospitality by offering typical Sri Lankan food such as kiribath, kavun, halapa etc., which were made by the home science teachers and students.

Wednesday 16th was planned for visiting The Faculty of Humanities & Social Sciences, University of Sri Jayewardenepura, Nugegoda.

As The Faculty of Humanities & Social Sciences at University of Jaywardenepura are planning implement distributed CELCAT Timetabler system across 10 departments, on Thursday 16th Mr Grimes along with AMS staff demonstrated CELCAT distributed system in a live environment to a around 20 management and curriculum staff from all 10 departments including the faculty dean Prof P. Athukorale. On Friday Mr Grimes and AMS staff were met by secretary to the Higher Education Dr. Sunil Jayantha Nawaratne and

Entire day of Wednesday was spent at base with AMS staff installation, training and exploring new web version of CELCAT LIVE.

On Friday Mr Grimes and Director of AMS met with Dr. Sunil Jayantha Nawaratne Secretary to the Minister for Higher Education with a view to how timetabling by computer could benefit the whole of the HE sector in Sri Lanka by providing attractive easy to manage timetables and offering easy access to valuable statistical information that could be used by national university governance and individual institutions. This was followed by a meeting with Professor Gamini Samaranayake Chairman of the UGC (University Grants Commission) along similar lines.
